Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Patrick Süskind This was an interesting book -- I picked it up because I had never heard of it and the blurb looked like something I would enjoy. I can't say that I enjoyed it. I didn't hate it, but I did think it was a weird book. The background on the perfume industry was very interesting, but the story itself was hit or miss. I was not inspired by the main character, but kept reading just to see what would happen to him. He was an unsympathetic character, and I suspect that was author's intention, but still, I finished the book only because I wanted to see how it turned out, not because I had any real concern for the characters.

Possible spoiler: As I read the Part Three, all I could think of was the character in the The Silence of the Lambs who was making a coat from the hides of his victims. This book would be better titled Perfume: The Story of a Serial Killer.
